There is an indentation on the back of the dj that has slightly transferred to the board. $225.00
• Published on the occasion of an exhibition at the Amon Carter Museum, Fort Worth, TX, Avedon's In the American West is widely regarded as a landmark project in photographic history and a definitive expression of the power of photographic art. Avedon traveled throughout five years, meeting and photographing the people of the West--ranch workers, roustabouts, bar girls, drifters, gamblers, miners, wildcatters, slaughterhouse workers, and adolescents. Often mistaken as sociology, Avedon was very clear that it is entirely a fiction, his "vision" of the West. This makes the work no less stunning an achievement. Parr & Badger, The Photobook, Vol. 2.

Portraits
Photographs and text by Richard Avedon; Essays by Maria Morris Hambourg & Mia Fineman; Foreword by Philippe de Montebello

• From the publisher: With uncompromising directness, Avedon portrayed his subjects against a white background, with no extraneous details to distract from the essential specificity of face, gaze, dress, and gesture. This challenging innovation, coupled with the artist's intense interest in his subjects and mastery of his craft, resulted in mesmerizing portraits-among them Truman Capote, Willem de Kooning, Samuel Beckett, Francis Bacon, Robert Frank, June Leaf, and Marilyn Monroe, as well as the uncelebrated Americans of his project, In the American West--that rival the greatest works in the portrait tradition.

Cloth bound hardback in dust jacket. Near Fine, a couple of pages have light rub-off, in a Near Fine dj with a small scrape to the cover. $75.00
• These photos of TV and movie stars at play with children, or serving hamburgers at a backyard barbecue seem to emphasize the stars' remoteness from ordinary life: they are icons imitating normalcy. Barney, Tina

• Tina Barney's photographs portray relationships and at the same time invoke theatrical role-play reminiscent of nineteenth century portraiture. Each is a staged re-enactment of a prior moment and their power rests on their emphasis on often quixotic and ultimately human and mundane details. These photographic moments undermine the traditional relationship of subject to viewer and elide the status of portraits of the classes who would traditionally have commissioned painted family portraits.

It caused an outcry among some Afrikaners who were aggrieved at what they considered ridicule with malignant intent. Goldblatt's concern, however, was an exploration of the relationship between individual South Africans and the society they live in. This new issue offers an additional twenty images from the '60s that were not included in the original book, different cropping to many of the photos, as well as Goldblatt's notes on how the books came into being.

• Midnight was a close confidant of Gottfried's. At first, Midnight was a handsome and charming companion who danced and performed at nightclubs. But as time passed, he began to behave in an increasingly bizarre fashion and was soon after diagnosed as a paranoid schizophrenic. • From the publisher: Working with ordinary people who answered ads in local papers, and posing them in their nondescript homes or unexceptional landscapes, Katy Grannan alchemizes these factors into extraordinary photographs. Disarming for their directness and for the provocative but casual nudity on display, her pictures capture the spirit of her subjects in the manner of Diane Arbus, but they also draw upon the artificial, posed tableaux of Gregory Crewsdon and, indeed, art history. Nudes.
